Shimbukan Seminar - Glasgow
22-24 June 2018
Okinawa comes to Glasgow
Scotland has a long history of fighting, either against the invading Norsemen, the invading English, the invading Irish, or the invading members of other Scottish Clans. Unfortunately even today some people still maintain a Clan mentality and this can lead to violence.
Fortunately, practicing the martial arts, like Karate and Kobudo, does wonders for protecting you - often without you realising.
One of the best analogies to practical self defence is the tool box. Sometimes you need a hammer for a nail and a screwdriver for a screw.
The Okinawans understood this. Weapons training was of prime importance amongst the Pechin classes, and Karate was your back up.
This is why many in Okinawa still practice the art of Kobudo to this day. Using the Bo is seen as the highest form of martial practice, and a perfect compliment to Karate.
In 2017 I travelled to Okinawa to train in Karate but soon found myself engrossed in practicing Kobudo. Even after 20 years of Karate it was still a challenge to use the Bo or the Sai correctly, and that is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of weapons available.
It was a long journey from Scotland, and a worthy sacrifice in money and time.
Now it's 2018 and I am bringing the knowledge and expertise back to Scotland. So you lucky people don't have to travel so far for a taste of traditional Okinawan martial arts.
Come experience the foundations of Ryukyu Kobudo as Instructed by Kaicho Akamine Hiroshi Sensei, one of the leading Sensei in Okinawan traditional martial arts. Renshi Dell Hamby Sensei has over 20 years experience and is currently Uchi-deshi of the Shimbukan Dojo. As Akamine Sensei's right hand man he has travelled to all corners of the globe providing instruction in many languages, that he himself speaks.
This year, as part of a European tour, Hamby Sensei will be coming to Glasgow to give instruction in Bo and Sai, the most important weapons of Ryukyu Kobudo training.
Whether you are a beginner, or you are looking to brush up on your basics, this Seminar will bring you a new dimension to your Martial Arts practice and show why it is such an important part of training in Okinawa.
What to Expect:
You will learn Basic Kion for both Bo and Sai, including Kion Katas for both which will give you a strong foundation in which to explore the art further.
No prior experience required in Kobudo or Karate to attend.
Spaces are Limited and the first 5 applicants will receive a little Okinawan goodies kit.
